Learn more about the essential ingredients that are in Skin Identicals products and how they work to renew your skin’s lustre.

Aloe vera

Has natural rejuvenating properties. It contains vitamins C and E, which improve and enhance hydration levels, skin firmness and tissue repair. It also offers instant cooling, soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)

This high potency formulation delivers 6% lactic acid and 3% glycolic acid.

  • Lactic acid – extremely hydrating, brightening and smoothing, lactic acid has humectant properties that keep skin soft and moist by increasing the water content of the epidermis. It also increases natural ceramides (barrier lipids) in the skin and acts as an anti-inflammatory and a gentle exfoliant.
  • Glycolic acid – increases cell turnover, reduces impactions, brightens and increases epidermal and dermal hydration.
Bearberry (arctostaphylos uva ursi leaf extract) and white mulberry (morus alba leaf extract)

These tyrosinase inhibitors contain arbutin, which is a natural form of hydroquinone and can be used safely long term.

Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs)

Formulated with 2% salicylic acid.

  • Salicylic acid – reduces breakouts and inflammation of the sebaceous glands, penetrates through oil on the surface of the skin, deep cleanses, reduces impactions and clogged pores.

The most stable and effective form of vitamin C currently available, this oil-soluble formulation rapidly penetrates and protects skin cells without irritation. Collagen synthesis increases fibroblast activity leading to collagen proliferation and protects the skin against UVA and UVB damage. A whitening/brightening effect inhibits melanogenesis (the process where melanocytes produce melanin in the skin). Antioxidant protection inhibits lipid peroxidation, oxidative degradation that can damage cell membranes, and inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that can degrade connective tissues in the extracellular matrix.

Indian gooseberry (emblica)

A potent antioxidant that lightens pigmentation and prevents transdermal water loss. It also has a topical anti-inflammatory effect and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine.

A plant-based hormone that stops plant leaves from drying out. Within the skin, it maintains moisture, keeping skin tissues youthful, lush and resilient. It is responsible for cell division and can help repair DNA – it also has potent antioxidant properties, proven to reduce the signs of ageing, manage free radical damage and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It is a gentle alternative to topical retinoids, delivering similar results.

Lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil)

Encourages rapid healing of skin conditions by soothing inflammation and enabling healthy tissue growth and scar prevention. Lavender has natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties to the skin.

Licorice root extract

Works in tandem to control hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanocyte activity in the skin. Licorice extract has strong tyrosinase-inhibiting capabilities and prevents UVB-induced pigmentation.

Matrixyl (palmitoyl pentapeptide-4)

A peptide chain that promotes the production of collagen in the skin. Plumps the skin and increases its density.

Melanostatine-5 (dextran-nonapeptide-1)

A skin lightening peptide that works through the antagonism of the alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone. This means it does not allow the hormone to tell the melanocyte to produce melanin, thus preventing and lightening hyperpigmentation.

Vitamin B3 is a multi-use skin rejuvenator that benefits the skin in many different ways. Niacinamide can effectively treat acne, fade hyperpigmentation, balance oil production and improve the skin’s barrier function. It provides antioxidant properties for the skin and it has also been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties.

Tyrostat (rumex occidentalis extract)

This tyrosinase inhibitor reduces skin pigmentation and erythema. It also reduces the appearance of age spots and has a whitening activity proven on Asian skin.

This is an important component of the body’s natural moisturising factor (NMF). A natural exfoliant, it works in synergy with other ingredients in the skin, such as lactic acid, and increases skin permeability of certain skin ingredients. It refines the skin’s texture so it appears healthy and younger looking. It also increases cell renewal and collagen synthesis, helping to firm skin, even skin tone, reduce age-related fine lines, promote healing and reduce inflammation and redness of sensitive irritated skin.

Vitamin A

One of the most powerful anti-ageing ingredients, it reverses the signs of photoageing, eliminating the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin discolouration caused by sun exposure and acne. This formulation contains 0.9% retinol, a non-acidic form that is less irritating than other forms of vitamin A.

  • Retinol – this fat-soluble form of vitamin A is used in lubricating cream and oils for its skin regenerating properties. It reverses the signs of photoageing in the skin and maintains cellular functions and processes, including helping cells reproduce normally, a process called cellular differentiation.
Vitamin C

This product contains two forms of vitamin C, the fat-soluble ascorbyl palmitate and the water-soluble ascorbic acid. Vitamin C plays a major role in the synthesis of collagen, promoting the recovery and reconstruction of new collagen to increase skin elasticity and density. It is an effective free radical scavenger, promoting skin health and vitality. It acts synergistically with vitamin E, helping to regenerate and preserve its efficacy within the skin. Vitamin C helps lighten skin discolouration and is an excellent anti-ageing ingredient.

Vitamin E (tocopherol acetate)

Vitamin E is an essential and important antioxidant that aids in the deactivation of free radicals and stabilises and maintains cell membranes. It helps in wound healing, rejuvenates tissue and increases epidermal moisturisation.

Zinc oxide

Provides excellent SPF 15 protection, shielding against UVA and UVB rays, and has anti-irritant and antioxidant properties.
